Bio

A lot has happened since Brazilian Techno DJ Kalif started his career 14 years ago in Brasilia. He moved to Ireland in 1998 where he would become one of the main techno jocks of the Irish capital. Over the next few years he would perform in numerous cities in France, Ireland and his home country; playing in big clubs, raves, house parties and radio shows. Mixing in front of huge crowds, smaller crowds, or at his house, Kalif always loved each experience for what it was: an opportunity to create intrinsically, sharing his energy with others through music, and as a result, synergy being transformed into one single thing.

In 2003 he decided to move back to Brazil, destination: Rio de Janeiro. A city where local sounds tend to have a bigger influence on the music scene than in other cities of the country, such as the massive metropolis of São Paulo, where electronic music has always been huge since the early nineties.

Maturing spiritually and professionally, Kalif continued his music saga whilst witnessing a lot of changes taking place - like vinyl being pushed away by the frenetic electronic evolution. In 2008 he released his debut album Banzo. A very personal and diverse expression of a man’s passion for music and his will to share feelings; the album has been one of his dearest projects.

With time he would learn not to be limited by a constant sense of nostalgia, but rather follow the natural flow of events, without any kind of frustration. Things change. It’s an essential part of life.

All though he is fairly disillusioned with the way the music scene has shifted throughout the years – where egos, vanity and greed so often tend to dictate the course of things- the Brazilian/Irish DJ’s beliefs are stronger than ever: no matter where he finds himself, his passion for music is more than enough, no matter what happens, what trends become; the fire from within will bring warmth while the tunes played will make his day. After all, happiness is an intrinsic state of mind.
